Newberry Lioness celebrate 28th anniversary

The Newberry Lioness recently celebrated their 28th anniversary at Charter Night. The theme was the Birthday Bash.

Attending were District Governor Charles Keener and Vice District Governor Gary Strach, Lioness Chariperson Diane Dunn, past District Governors and Lioness from other clubs in the area.

Evelyn Moore, president; and Mary Martha Messner, vice president, presided. Judee Robinolt is the secretary and Helen Dgien is the treasurer.

A Chinese auction was held and Pat Rishcoff was awarded the PA Fellow Award. Betty Way was presented the Lioness of the Year Award and her daughter, Linda Dalto, received the “Cub Award.”

The Charter Committee included the president, vice president, secretary, Beverly Weaver, Pat Mowry, Bea Remick, Terry Holohan, Sherry Ault, Krystal Sheleman and Deb Shief.

For Easter, the Lioness group delivered fruit baskets to Hope homes in the Williamsport area. For fundraisers, each month orders are taken for ham sandwiches. The ladies make them and deliver the sandwiches themselves. They are planning a yard sale for May 11 at the Lycoming Presbyterian Church in Newberry.

On June 29 they will have a burger burn at Sam’s Club.

The ladies also soon will be planting flowers at Dunkin’ Donuts and the monument in Newberry.

The group is collecting paper products, toys, books and puzzles for the Ronald McDonald House in Danville, which they will take when they visit there this month. They also will be taking soda tabs that they have collected.

In July, the ladies will visit Camp Victory, a camp for terminally ill children and make desserts to serve to the campers and staff.

All proceeds from fundraising are given back to the community. Included are Williamsport Area High School scholarships, diabetes care, Leader Dog, North Central Sight Services, Hope Enterprises, Gate House, CAPPA and more.
