Man charged following a domestic dispute

ELKLAND – Michael J. Williams, 42, of 46 Buffard’s Riverside Estates, Lawrenceville, was charged with simple assault and harassment following a domestic incident recently.

According to documents filed at District Judge Brian Edgcomb’s office, Williams was charged by borough police after they were dispatched to the residence Jan. 13 and Williams’ girlfriend, Shannon Black, said he hit her in the eye after she didn’t come home from drinking when he thought she should.

He also threw her down on the bed and put his hands around her neck and told her she was “going to sleep,” police said.

She said she pretended to follow his orders but as soon as she could she called 911 and said she was in fear for her life. He was issued a summons to appear at a May 16 preliminary hearing.

Man allegedly uses bad check to pay for car

ELKLAND – Brian J. Rought, 35, of Burlington, was charged by Lawrenceville police with retail theft, theft by deception and bad checks after he allegedly used a bad check to pay for a car.

According to documents filed at District Judge Brian Edgcomb’s office, Rought convinced the finance manager at Chilson-Wilcox Inc. car dealership in Lawrenceville last summer that he had $18,000 and a job in order to pay for a car, which he took possession of, with a check he wrote on his personal account for $17,993, knowing it was bad.

The car was repossessed but the title has not yet been returned, police said.

Rought was released on $25,000 bail and his preliminary hearing set for today.

stealing box of sugar

ELKLAND – Harlan E. Davis, 68, of 250 Race St., Apt. 114, Westfield, was charged with retail theft and criminal trespass for allegedly stealing a box of sugar worth $1.50.

According to documents filed at District Judge Brian Edgcomb’s office, Davis went into the Dollar General, 346 E. Main St., Westfield, on Jan. 4, knowing he was barred from the store because of a previous shoplifting incident, and took a box of sugar.

He was issued a summons to appear at a preliminary hearing today.

Man charged with

tattooing minor

ELKLAND – Matthew S. Stone, 28, of 122 E. Main St., Westfield, was charged by Westfield police with tattooing a minor without his parents’ permission recently.

According to documents filed at District Judge Brian Edgcomb’s office, Stone tattooed a 16-year-old juvenile male without the consent of his parents on Jan. 25, at 107 W. Main St., Room 4. He was issued a summons to appear at a preliminary hearing today.

Man charged with breaking into VFW

ELKLAND – David L. Sherman, 22, of 203 Bender Lane, was charged by state police with criminal trespass after he allegedly broke into the VFW at 703 Boatman Road, Sept. 19, 2011, and took a candy bar after attempting to break into the safe. He was released on $25,000 bail and his preliminary hearing set for today.

5 are charged with writing bad checks

ELKLAND – Five people were charged with writing bad checks recently.

According to documents filed at District Judge Brian Edgcomb’s office, they are:

Mary K. Bell, 26 of, Shinglehouse, by Westfield police, $264 to Ackley and Sons, 311 W. Main St., Westfield, Nov. 18. She was issued a summons to appear at a Feb. 28 preliminary hearing.

Dean B. Blakely, 60, of 109 1/2 Third St., Lewisburg, by state police, $2,249 to Keck’s Food Service, Millerton, Jan. 8. He was issued a summons to appear at a March 28 preliminary hearing.

Larry H. Metcalf, 53, of 110 Second St., Harrison Valley, by Westfield police, $200 to Ackley and Sons, 311 W. Main St., Westfield, June 6, 2011. He was issued a summons to appear at a preliminary hearing today.

Alicia K. Mead, 24, of 150 North St., Apt. 301A, Westfield, by Westfield police plus theft by deception, $800 to Ackley and Sons, 311 W. Main St., Westfield, Dec. 24, with only $120 paid back so far. She was issued a summons to appear at a Feb. 21 preliminary hearing.

Kenneth W. Lampman, 46, of 474 California Road, Westfield, by Westfield police $200 to Ackley and Sons, 311 W. Main St., Westfield. He was issued a summons to appear at a preliminary hearing today.

drunken driving

ELKLAND – Several people were charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants recently. According to documents filed at the offices of District Judges Rob Repard and Brian Edgcomb,, each was issued a summons to appear. They are:

Sierra L. Morra, 19, of 4A Kelsey St., Wellsboro, by borough police after she crashed her car on Nichols Street, Jan. 4.

Steven R. Riley, 34, of DuBois, by state police after he crashed his car on Route 549, Jackson Township, Dec. 3.

Terry Lee Champion, 44, of Bradford, N.Y., by state police following a traffic stop on Route 49, Nelson Township, Jan. 17.
