Jack E. Thomas
Jack E. Thomas, 81, of 208 Smith St., Avis, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 30, 2013, at the Gatehouse.
Born Aug. 4, 1931, in Avis, he was the son of Brady E. Thomas and the former Ethel M. Fisher.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, the former Ann Louise Kryder. They were united in marriage Feb. 20, 1956.
Jack was a 1949 graduate of the Jersey Shore High School and earlier in his life he worked for the New York Central Railroad as a car knocker. He also was employed by American Chemical Co. and Woolrich Inc. For many years he and his mother co-owned and operated Thomas Restaurant on Route 150 in Charlton.
During the Korean War, Jack honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force from April 7, 1951, until April 6, 1955. For more than 50 years, Jack was a member of the Labelle Vallee Lodge No. 232 F.&A.M. Jersey Shore.
He is survived by four daughters, Cheryl L. Lehman of Avis, Bonnie J. (Bob) Gottschall of Jersey Shore, Kathy M. Lachat (Denny Berfield) of Avis and Linda K. Thomas (Good Friend Karen Mitchell) of Lock Haven; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, May Pearl (Hawkins) Kuehl of Avis. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, father and stepfather, Johnny F. Fisher Sr.
He will be greatly missed for his famous cooking, laughter and fishing tales. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jack was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the funeral home. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Saint John Cemetery with full Military Honors conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard. Rev. Kerry R. Aucker will officiate. Family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made in his name to the Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
